Located on the 1500 acre estate of Slane Castle, within the castle’s 18th century restored stable yard, Slane Distillery is the homeplace of the triple distilled and triple casked Slane Irish Whiskey. Historically, the Boyne Valley- with its fertile soil and pure River Boyne water- was home to mutiple distilleries. Yet, over the centuries, each one closed for reasons including Prohibition in the United States (1920 -1933) when the importation of alcohol was banned.
In a then historic twist, Slane Distillery and Slane Whiskey was born out of kinship between the Ireland based Conyngham family (owners of Slane Castle) and the US based Kentucky whiskey distillers, Brown-Forman.
Today, visitors to Slane Distillery experience this whiskey’s story within the reality of a modern, working distillery as they move through the barley room, cooperage, maturation warehouse, and pot still distillation suites, ending with a tasting of the smooth yellow- gold Slane Whiskey itself.
