Here’s a good tip for an outing to the Annual Laytown Beach Horse Racing event, stay at the CityNorth Hotel and we will bring you by coach to the Race Meeting, your entrance fee is included to this truly unique event and we will bring you back to the Hotel for further live entertainment!!

Check into your comfortable accommodation for the next two nights at CityNorth and the coach will take you for a great evening’s entertainment on the Golden Strand at Laytown.  The time of the first race is determined by the tide on the day, Tuesday 7th September 2010.  This Horse Racing Event is the only officially approved beach racing in Europe.

Complimentary entry into the 3 acre ‘race field’ leaves you with extra Euros for a wager; any horses with the names city or north may be lucky.  Brimming with marquees, bookies, stalls and parade ring (the gents is the only permanent fixture!) the field overlooks the finishing line of the sandbank racetrack. To complete the picture, steps are cut into the sand dunes to create the ‘grandstand’; this is truly an event to be savored.  Bet you have a great evenings racing!
When the tide starts creeping back in, it’s time to kick the sand off your shoes and head for the second furlong of the night with live entertainment back at the CityNorth Hotel.

So you’ve had a taste of culture on this journey to the Boyne Valley - now it’s time for a bit of heritage with a guided tour Drogheda, a terraced medieval town built into the valley and steeped in history.  This interesting tour starts at the top of the town at Millmount Museum @ 2pm on Wed 8th September (must be prebooked at hotel reception).

Other activities in the area could include a visit to the Battle of the Boyne site; the horseriding attire was a bit more cumbersome in the 1690’s than today’s jockey’s silks!

Theres also golf, swimming, shopping, time out at Highlanes Art Gallery or catch up on the latest release at the local cinema, just a few choices to fill your day. Staff at CityNorth will be able to furnish you with plenty of maps and information.

Unlike the Laytown Races, don’t leave it another year before you return to CityNorth Hotel.
